It's that time of year again, and here are the details (subject to minor changes):
Our annual Back to School chess tournament has been scheduled for Saturday, October 2nd at St. George School, 748 Redberry Rd., Saskatoon. Please pre-register for this tournament by contacting Don MacKinnon at donmac451@sasktel.net, or by telephone at 306 445 8369. If you have pre-registered, you can pay at the door between 9:45 and 10:10. We'll try to start play by 10:15 a.m. If you do not pre-register, please come early, by 9:30, so that we can obtain all the necessary information about your child.
Saskatchewan's highest rated student chess player, scored an impressive 7 out of 9 at the Quebec Open, winning second place on tie-breaks in the Open section. Keith's only loss came in round 8, while playing black. The Open section's winner, lost only one game, and that was to Keith. Keith's play will put his CFC rating over 2300 and will boost his FIDE rating to 2200.
I'm just wondering where everyone is staying for the BATB and how you'll be getting there - thanks.
Fans of Keith MacKinnon and Jamin Gluckie (and we all know who you are) will be delighted to know that most of their games at the currently-in-progress Canadian Open have been broadcast LIVE at the MonRoi web site (http://monroi.com/watch/?tnm_id=1406, free registration required).
So, fire up that web browser, pop a nice big bowl of popcorn, relax, and watch the carnage!
For those student chess players who want to go to the next level in improving their chess, take a look at the up-coming "Battle at the Border", a major chess tournament being organized for Lloydminster over the Labour Day long weekend.

You will see that American G.M. Hikaru Nakamura and Canadian G.M. Pascal Charbonneau are both going to be attending, along with many other titled players.
